"Golf Progress Report"

At our CFG Support Team planning meeting yesterday, we read the short essay
"Golf Progress Report" by Nancy Mohr and used the Marvin's Model protocol to develop a shared understanding of the big ideas of coaching and change. Here is the protocol:

Marvin's Model

Purpose: When time is short and you want to develop a shared context.

Structure: In groups of 8-10, in turn respond to questions posed by the facilitator. One question is posed--each person speaks for 30 seconds. Then the next question is posed. There is no dialog, just each person speaking in turn. This is especially useful in introducing a topic and getting participants to share their points of view. There may or may not be open discussion around these questions in the large group; it depends on time.

For this protocol, the facilitator must develop questions to ask the group. Here are some sample ideas for questions that could be used with "Golf Progress Report."

·What motivates people to improve?
·How does giving and receiving feedback help people improve?
·Why is change difficult?
·How do people successfully change?
·What do you want to change about yourself?
·What do you want to change about your school?
·What are the obstacles to making that change?
·Why are coaches important?
·What makes a good coach?
