Boundaries

I presented part of our "Mapping the Journey of Collaborative Reflective Practices Through Traveling Journals" powerpoint presentation during my Doctoral Residency class last Monday. I kept all of our names on the title page and said a few words about each member of the Portfolio Group to set the context and show that we are a very collaborative group that crosses district boundaries. I enjoyed sharing our work again, and the presentation was very well-received.

However, I once again bumped into my question of ""How do I balance my values of making my work public and respecting my colleague's privacy when so much of my work as a collaborator is entwined in other people's work?"

One of my classmates in the residency class asked me some specific questions about our group member who is a school principal. It turns out that my classmate's own child is a student at the principal's school. I did not divulge any particular information about real journal entries, but the experience certainly made me think of the tensions that are involved.

Always makes me aware of using our 'writing' names in the text. Even though we are public, the presenters are still us, but it is more difficult to tell which comment is made by whom and what school.

Maybe we need to start in our presentations using those school names also.

Also speaks in making sure if someone's name is on a document that presentation or chapter writing has been read and approved. Also made me think that if a response is not heard from a member, his/her name comes off the presentation, chapter, article, etc. (not in text). I am not sure - a good consultancy dilemma.

Again makes me aware of the need to read everything and read from fresh eyes.
