After blogging on my own for a year and a half, I feel like I am entering uncharted waters again. "The Portfolio Group" weblog makes its debut this week. Over a dozen educators are designated as authors. Like my personal blog, "Donna's Reflections",
this blog has the purpose of encouraging regular reflection and making our practice public. I'm curious to see how the dynamics of writing as a group will play out. Will there be dominant voices? What common themes will emerge? Will the process of writing regularly and commenting on each other's writing strengthen our relationships and deepen our work?
Many of the "nuts and bolts" issues of maintaining a group weblog still need to be hammered out. Actually, we probably haven't even thought about most of the nuts and bolts issues, but that is something that I plan on reflecting on throughout this process--"What are the issues involved in developing a weblog with many authors?"

I think you are so right, this is going to be a new adventure and will help make our work completely public. I like the idea of our work out there for everyone, yet that is so scarey and makes us so vunerable. Education has been a closed system for so many years that even the hint of making educational practices open and public creates tension.

It is something like "blog authority," I think... Some people gain authority from position, others from level of schooling, others from following orders or interpreting texts...Blogging suggests a different kind of authority, particularly when a group participates in it... Something to think about...
